It's considered a mountainous plant, so it likes a very sunny window with mild temperatures. The broad leaf form has wider leaves than the more common narrow leaf form. It also grows slower than other forms of Cape sundews and is more temperamental to hot conditions. However, it matures into a larger plant overall.

Type of Plant: Tropical plant for windowsill growing.
Size: 6 inches across when mature.
Sunlight: Partial sun. Avoid hot sunlight.
Water: Low-mineral water (50 ppm or less).
Soil: Equal parts peat moss and perlite only.
Temperatures: Tolerant of cool temperatures but always protect from frost.

Awesome service as usual, my container had three seedlings instead of just one. All three are doing great!

    A Very Happy Capensis!

Posted by Joseph Sylvester on February 22, 2015

I'm relatively new to carnivorous plants, but am in love with them. This was my first Sundew and my first internet order of a plant of any kind. It came expertly packaged and protected. The Capensis came out of the box the happiest plant I've ever seen. No signs of stress from the shipping, still very green with much of its dew still on. I've had the plant only a short time, but it's already growing more dew and seems even more perky with each passing day. I will be ordering all of my carnivorous plants from Sarracenia Northwest from now on. :)

I own many D. capensis plants, but the ones I've gotten from SNW are the healthiest and more robust I have in my collection.

    Can't go wrong!

This was my first Drosera, and I always read how easy they are. That's a fact. It sits in it's water tray and grows. The only fussing I've done is cutting the dying under growth. The leaves stick to anything and everything. Fungus gnats are it's favorite.

    Fantastic Packaging

Man, everyone knows how amazing Sarracenia Northwest ships their plants, but I was hesitant to order the capensis. It's long dewy leaves might be damaged or take weeks to recover right? Wrong. The plant came in perfectly, and even with my repotting, the plant responded perfectly and its sprouting new leaves like crazy! Perfect packing and shippng guys!

    Bought in April 2014

Posted by Richard on June 3, 2014

I purchased one of these plants in April of 2014. I am so pleased with this plant. It closely resembled the one in the picture. In fact the pot contained 2 plants and 1 tiny seedling! After a few weeks I split all the plants up and now I have 3 separate plants and the seedling is growing very well. I'm extremely pleased with this purchase and will certainly buy again.
