Named for its natural habitat, the cape region of South Africa, Cape sundews grow vigorously and produces large leaves at maturity. It's considered a mountainous plant, so it likes a very sunny window with mild temperatures. The broad leaf form has wider leaves than the more common narrow leaf form. It also grows slower than other forms of Cape sundews and is more temperamental to hot conditions. However, it matures into a larger plant overall.

Type of Plant: Tropical plant for windowsill growing.
Size: 6 inches across when mature.
Sunlight: Partial sun. Avoid hot sunlight.
Water: Low-mineral water (50 ppm or less).
Soil: Equal parts peat moss and perlite only.
Temperatures: Tolerant of cool temperatures but always protect from frost.

    capensis purchase

Posted by Craig Stott on November 28, 2015

I went with two of your sundews (capensis) to help get rid of the fruit fly problem in our kitchen. Both plants arrived well sealed and ready to go (and on time). I put them under an LED grow light all night in the kitchen along with some homemade fruit fly traps and voila, both plants are getting well fed! So far so good.

high quality plant, high quality experience

The sundew I ordered was delivered in a timely manner and was packaged very well. The growing medium it came in was still very moist and the plant itself still had a lot of dew. I've been growing mine indoors with grow lights and it's been showing great growth. Will definitely buy this product again and would recommend to friends :)

    Beautiful and Effective!

We purchased this plant for the purpose of reducing/eliminating the fruit fly population in our kitchen. Bottom line - it works!! Both of our purchases (this and the D spatulata) arrived in excellent condition, very carefully packaged, and containing explicit, easy to follow directions on caring for our little plants. These we followed carefully, and are being rewarded with healthy, happy little plants! Thank you Sarracenia NW!!
