Sarracenia Hank

We named this plant after our first nursery dog, Hank, who was a loving gentle giant. Like its namesake, this plant is an unconfirmed hybrid, though we highly suspect that it's a cross of Sarracenia flava atropurpurea and Sarracenia leucophylla. The plant is red, big, and a hefty eater. It loves to bask in the sun, sit in water, and enjoy attention from customers. Its best growth occurs in spring and early to mid summer.

Type of Plant: Outdoor perennial for container growing.
Height: Up to 18 inches.
Sunlight: Full sun during the growing season.

2nd Season Divisions
After dividing our mother plants in spring, we grow the divisions for a year before releasing them. You get a more vigorous plant with a healthier root system when compared to a recent division.

All outdoor perennials experience seasonal changes at our nursery in Oregon.
January-March: Plant is dormant with no pitchers.
April: Spring growth will appear by the end of the month.
May: Fully developed pitchers will start to appear.
June: Full display of pitchers. This plant will look its best!
July-August: Plant will slow down when it’s hot. Some minor spotting.
September-October: Dormancy begins. Fewer pitchers. No new growth until spring.
November-December: Plant is dormant. Browned pitchers are cut off.

Can't really tell yet how well it is doing because Hank is still in dormancy, but it looks O.K.

I have bought other plants online (carnivores and not) and this one arrived in great condition, very well packaged and protected. It has already started producing nice size pitchers. Very happy with this purchase!

    Strong and Tall

Posted by Quinn on May 15, 2019

I love this hybrid! I bought one in the summer of 2018 and now that spring 2019 has come around it has absolutely exploded out of dormancy and is further along than any of my other pitchers. The pitchers are already 15" tall and the color is really unique. If you're looking for a big, impressive plant I would definitely recommend putting some time into this one.
