Pygmy sundews are noted for their miniature size, often only 1/4-inch in diameter. Drosera scorpiodes is one of many species of pygmy sundews native to Australia. For a pygmy, this one is a giant! During its first year, it grows up to 2 inches tall. As the plant matures, it continues to grow an inch or two each year. The lower portions will turn brown, but the upper portion will remain green. They seem to reach a maximum height of 8 inches. The leaves resemble the tail of a scorpion and has dewy tentacles that wrap around flies and other small insects. What a beast! Grrrr!

The 3 sundews I received were in excellent shape. There was much care giving to the packing and shipment of the plants. All of the plants are doing great!

    sundew plant

Posted by Eileen Franke on August 17, 2015

I am following al the grow directions for this species but it is not doing as well as the 2 pitcher plants that came in same shipment. It is still hanging on but barely. Came well packaged, in great condition with growing instructions. Sadly perhaps not species for this household

    Drosera Scorpiodes

Posted by KK on August 16, 2015

I have had these plants for about a month and they are in great condition. I received four extremely well packaged plants, two of which were 2-2.5 inches long with 4-5 carnivorous leaves each, the other two were about an inch long and have developed carnivorous leaves within the last week or two. All plants were received and remain healthy and are showing considerable growth despite rather rough replanting.

The sundew arrived healthy and carefully packaged. I've had it for about a month and it is still doing well and growing.

These Sundews are so interesting that when they arrived and I got them conditioned to the area, I just had to order several more of them for the other rooms.

    Great plant investment!

I ordered two Scorpiodes, one for me and one for my mother-in-law. Not only are they stupidly easy to care for by placing on a sunny windowsill, (for watering just place in a dish of tap water and just make sure it doesn't run dry.) The little guys probably ate more fruit flies then the weight of the plant itself! I would certainly buy more carnivorous plants from you as they came in excellent condition and did exactly what I wanted!

I received two of these little sundews a month ago, and am quite happy! Packaged well and shipped quickly. However, they have yet to dew up, but maybe they are still adapting?

Beautiful Plant, perhaps a bit grumpy

Posted by Jeff L. on July 28, 2014

Out of the 7 plants that came in the pot, only 3 are still active. Not too sure if the others have died, but they are showing no new growth after a month. I am keeping this the same as I'm keeping my D. roseana, and my D. spatulata, both of which are very full and thriving. 4 T8's in approximately 82F daytime temps down to 73'ish at night. All kept in a tray of water. My 3 star rating is only due to the apparent difficulty I'm having with the plant. The plant did show up in excellent condition, and the growth that is on it has plenty of dew. So for that, SNW deserves a full 5 stars. Perhaps the other plants will snap out of it.(?)
