A beautiful plant. The dormant pitchers that it arrived with remind me of S. x excellens, just "open" a bit wider. A fine colorful clone mine is. Thanks SNW!

This plant is simply Christmas in July! If sheer size and color are what you're after, then look no further than Sarracenia x readii, the natural hybrid of S. leucophylla and S. rubra. Intricate, dark-red veins of the sweet pitcher imposed on the color and loft of the white trumpet make for a breath-taking plant that you could almost eat with a spoon!
The arresting traps are predominantly red and white throughout the top half of the leaf, speckled with white and giving way to nearly pure red halfway down. Lids are slightly scalloped, upturned, and white with red veining. The throat is generous and inflated near the top of the trap. Interior of the pitcher is lime green. Red gradually turns to green in the lower portions of the exterior.
Look for its best pitchers of the season in late summer through the first frost of fall - the largest pitchers can be over two feet tall!

Plants are shipped in 4-inch pots with proper growing media. Each plant is a division from select mother plants in our collection. Pitchers are expected to reach 12 inches during their first season after division.

Water
Use mineral-free water or water low in minerals (less than 50 parts per million). Keep the soil wet by setting the plant in a dish of standing water.

Use 1 part peat moss and 1 part perlite (or washed river sand). Avoid fertilizers, regular garden soil, and compost.
Growing Season
April - October. Pitchers will brown at the onset of winter dormancy.

Hardy of winter frost. Mulch in USDA zones 7 and colder.
