Sarracenia Daina's Delight

(13 reviews)

Mark Edwards of New Zealand created this hybrid in the late 1990s and named it after his daughter, Daina. It's a lovely plant with tall slender pitchers that can reach 12-16 inches.  In spring, the early pitchers are green at the bottom and red at the top with white speckles. By early fall, the entire pitcher turns deep red, just in time for the winter holidays!

Sunlight: Full sun during the growing season.
Water: Low-mineral water (50 ppm or less).

2nd Season Divisions
After dividing our mother plants in spring, we grow the divisions for a year before releasing them. You get a more vigorous plant with a healthier root system when compared to a recent division.

All outdoor perennials experience seasonal changes at our nursery in Oregon.
January-March: Plant is dormant with no pitchers.
April: Spring growth will appear by the end of the month.
May: Fully developed pitchers will gradually appear.
June-August: Full display of pitchers.
September: Plant produces its best pitchers of the season.
October: Dormancy begins. Fewer pitchers. No new growth until spring.
November-December: Plant is dormant. Browned pitchers are cut off.

If you want a RED plant for your collection........this is THE PLANT. It is one of the most beautiful RED that I have ever seen in a plant. I bought several and may buy several more.

    A lovely plant, indeed!

This was my first Sarr. I wasn't prepared for the sharpness of color. Photos don't do this plant justice at all. Very beautiful, almost lacy look to the hood, and a very robust grower. Perfectly packaged, as usual.
