Botanically known as Sarracenia alata var. rubrioperculata, this plant has pointed hoods with a dark red interior. In spring, the plant stands out with its bright yellow-green pitchers with thin red veins. In late summer, it produces a second set of pitchers that are larger and darker with heavier veining. And guess what? This plant feasts on lots of yellow jackets at our nursery!

    First Shipment of plants

Posted by Robert Daniels on July 6, 2019

The plants I received were well packaged and healthy . Obviously you are a professional organization that takes great pains to assure a quality product. You may pay more for plants, but the quality of the plants are superior to anywhere that I have used. Highly recommend SSNW!

    Healthy plants

Posted by LAM on June 30, 2019

Thank you for everything. I received this plant in a pretty good packaging. Beautiful and healthy plant, very happy. But, several days later, suddenly there were “ice raining”, destroyed all of my beautiful Sarracenia. Now, it has some new pitchers again. Loved my Sarracenia Alata Red Hood.

    My favorite "easy" Sarracenia

Posted by Eric Fredrick on June 7, 2019

I received this plant last spring and it turned out to be quite the grower. Definitely among the most vigorous in my collection. So many pitchers! It's practically a weed. The red throat is striking and I've received many compliments on it. Highly recommend picking this one up.

    Sarracenia alata Red Hood

Posted by Tom on May 14, 2018

Plant arrived with a bloom bud which opened today with a nice yellow bloom. Also has several pitchers almost a foot long but haven't developed into mature pitchers, yet. Noticed today that 2 different Sundews have volunteered in the same pot. Hope they make it.
