In spring, the plant stands out with its bright yellow-green pitchers with thin red veins. In late summer, it produces a second set of pitchers that are larger and darker with heavier veining. At our nursery, this plant feasts of lots of yellow jackets!

2nd Season Divisions
After dividing our mother plants in spring, we grow the divisions for a year before releasing them. You get a more vigorous plant with a healthier root system when compared to a recent division.

All outdoor perennials experience seasonal changes at our nursery in Oregon.
January-March: Plant is dormant with no pitchers.
April: Spring growth will appear by the end of the month.
May: Fully developed pitchers will gradually appear.
June-August: Full display of pitchers.
September: Plant produces its best pitchers of the season.
October: Dormancy begins. Fewer pitchers. No new growth until spring.
November-December: Plant is dormant. Browned pitchers are cut off.

    My favorite "easy" Sarracenia

Posted by Eric Fredrick on June 7, 2019

I received this plant last spring and it turned out to be quite the grower. Definitely among the most vigorous in my collection. So many pitchers! It's practically a weed. The red throat is striking and I've received many compliments on it. Highly recommend picking this one up.

    Sarracenia alata Red Hood

Posted by Tom on May 14, 2018

Plant arrived with a bloom bud which opened today with a nice yellow bloom. Also has several pitchers almost a foot long but haven't developed into mature pitchers, yet. Noticed today that 2 different Sundews have volunteered in the same pot. Hope they make it.

The packaging was great, as usual. The plant looks very healthy and I can wait for it to come out of dormancy!
