Nepenthes Song of Melancholy (Clone C)
This plant was part of a open-pollinated breeding at Leilani Nepenthes Nursery. The actual parentage is unknown, though it is suspected to be Nepenthes boschiana x (spectabilis x veitchii) based on records of what was in bloom at the nursery at the time. When we received the first batch from LNN, the hybrid had a wide range of colors and patterns. We kept two particular plants for our collection and acquired a third from another grower.
Clone C is similar to Clone A (previously called "Song of Melancholy, Red"); its pitchers are adorned with dark red flecks against an orange-red background. The peristome (or lip) has light reddish orange stripes against a dark red background. The leaves are leathery. Pitchers on an adult plant approach 12 inches. Very striking overall.
