Houseplants - Terrarium Growing

We're sorry! We don't recommend terrariums. At our nursery, we practice what we preach. We only recommend and support growing techniques that we use at our nursery. Because we don't grow these plants in terrariums, we ask our customers to avoid them as well.

It's been a long-time myth that carnivorous plants need supper high humidity or that they need to be grown in shade. We've worked with thousands of growers who now grow carnivorous plants successfully by following our tried-and-true growing methods. Carnivorous plants are plants, and they have the ability to acclimate to changing humidity, just like regular non-carnivorous plants. Many carnivorous plants also require very strong lighting, much more than can be provided in a terrarium.

We grow Flytraps outside. In summer, the air is very dry.

Sarracenia also acclimate well to our hot, dry summers.

In summer, we keep the doors to our greenhouse wide open to vent out excess humidity. This helps Nepenthes acclimate to windowsill growing at their new home.

It's a myth that carnivorous plants, including sundews, need high humidity.

If you're willing to ditch the terrarium, we're willing to help you in anyway we can! We grow our plants in lower humidity so that they acclimate quickly to their new homes. As long as you follow our recommended growing instructions, your plants will be guaranteed for 30 days from the time of shipping. This guarantee is void if you grow your plants in a manner contrary to our recommendations. This is how strongly we stand by our recommendations.
