Pygmy sundews are noted for their miniature size, often only 1/4-inch in diameter. Drosera scorpiodes is one of many species of pygmy sundews native to Australia. For a pygmy, this one is a giant! During its first year, it grows up to 2 inches tall. As the plant matures, it continues to grow an inch or two each year. The lower portions will turn brown, but the upper portion will remain green. They seem to reach a maximum height of 8 inches. The leaves resemble the tail of a scorpion and has dewy tentacles that wrap around flies and other small insects. What a beast! Grrrr!

    Plant not producing much dew

Posted by Timothy Snead on June 23, 2014

My other sundew is producing the "Dew'to catch insects but the Drosera scorpiodes isn't producing much at all. It is growing well though. Hopefully, the plant will be producing more "dew" soon. The plant arrived in great shape though and arrived very quickly.

Arrived fast and in great condition

Posted by Jason on June 13, 2014

Getting back into the hobby after a hiatus, so I hadn't ordered plants in a few years. I went with SNW as they always shipped the best plants back in the day. As I suspected, their plants and packaging are still top notch. I got about 7 individual little pygmies in my pot. They're producing dew and look very healthy.

    Excellent product

Posted by jeffrey mclain on May 31, 2014

This plant is growing strong. I can't say anything bad about it. The shipping was very fast and the packing was perfect for her. I put her in a spot I was having gnat issues (hatched from dirt in other plants) and she's eating well. I was concerned at first it might eat too much but my worry was unnecessary. She acclimated almost overnight. I've had her for a month now and it's more than doubled in height! And beautiful too, I had a picture of her framed. I can't wait to order some different plants to add to my collection. Keep up the good work.

    Purchased Over A Month Ago

Posted by Richard on May 24, 2014

I wanted to wait several weeks before leaving a review. I'm very happy with my D. scorpiodes. Just as advertised it arrives as if you just plucked it off the store's shelf on your own. There was no noticeable "adjustment time" that you read about on internet forums. The plant maintained its shiny, dewey appearance and has been catching gnats in my house ever since. Continues to grow taller and produce copious amounts of dew. Would definitely buy again.

    Blooming within a month!

Posted by Julie on January 25, 2014

I couldn't believe how healthy this specimen was. When it arrived, there were only a few leaves out, but within a week half a dozen came out, and now a month later there are at least a dozen dewey and beautiful leaves. This plant is too cute. It's one of my favorites. Most impressive, is that it is blooming less than a month after it traveled in the mail. It has adjusted very well, despite the less-than-ideal conditions I am able to give it in a northeast winter.

An Unusual Addition To My Sundew Collection

Posted by Lara Haas on November 28, 2013

I ordered this sundew as part of a collection of three pygmy sundews. It arrived in great condition; it had been wrapped very delicately. There is a colony of five plants in the pot. All of them are growing very well and bounced back quickly after I needed to treat them with an insecticide. After it catches something to eat, its trap will noticeably curl around its prey. This is a very fascinating and unusual pygmy sundew.

Most recent order from Sarracenia Northwest

Posted by Bill N on October 10, 2013

I just received my 3rd (or was it the 4th) mail order purchase from Sarracenia Northwest. As always, the packaging was exemplary. I made the order in the middle of the night on Sunday and received it on Wednesday via Priority Mail. All 5 plants are in perfect condition. I don't think Jeff and Jacob will ship a plant that is less than excellent.
