This flytrap features red leaves and traps. Young plants are bright red throughout. As the plant matures, it turns maroon with a green margin along the edge of the traps. Despite its attractive red leaves, this particular variety is temperamental. It dislikes root disturbance, and it dislikes excessive heat. (Other varieties of flytraps are much more resilient.) In winter, it will also drop all of its leaves, leaving nothing to show. The Red Dragon Flytrap is best for growers who have experience growing the more typical variety.

Type of Plant: Outdoor perennial for container growing.
Height: Up to 4 inches at maturity.
Sunlight: Full sun during the growing season. (The Red Dragon Flytrap likes full sun but dislikes excessive heat. So it's most suitable to regions with sunny yet moderate summers.)
Water: Low-mineral water (50 ppm or less).
Soil: Equal parts peat moss and perlite only.
Winter: Dormant. Minimal protection in USDA zones 7-9. Mulch in colder regions.

    Great flytrap

I got a Red Dragon during the winter sale, and received it in perfect condition. It was packed with care and handled the shipping very well. I've had it for a little over a month, and it's already growing large traps and is flowering. It turned out to be an excellent purchase!

    Red Dragon

I had high hopes for this plant, but it seems to still be having some issues adjusting to it's new pot. I followed all the instructions as written, but it's just not doing as well as my other one. [Response by Sarracenia Northwest: This variety is more deciduous than other varieties of flytraps. It will drop its leaves as the weather cools, whereas other varieties will tend to keep more of their leaves. It's not at all unusual for Red Dragons to be completely bare at the onset of fall. Growth resumes in spring.]
