Don't let the name fool you - the outstanding pitchers on this moorei clone really do steal the show.
The first thing noticeable about "Funky Flower" is the crime scene going on in the back of its throat. The outlandish operculum is covered in a gigantic red splotch the exact color of blood. The rest of the pitcher is a fantastic neon yellow, with tiny red veins running throughout the upper parts of the trap and the heavily undulated lid.
The throat splotch is, in a macabre twist, also heavy with nectar. Flies look to be sipping blood before they slip intoxicated into the plant-stomach below.
The flower, which it is named after, is quite lovely, sporting long pastel-pink petals. After pollination, it arches upward to face the sky, in a bit of a funky way.
Late season traps can be heavily veined - almost appearing orange if given enough autumn sun.
The parentage of this select hybrid is a combination of Sarracenia flava v. rugelii and S. leucophylla.
