This variety of Cape sundew is a truly remarkable plant. Instead of the typical green, the entire plant is blood red. To maintain its extreme color, you will need to grow this plant in absolutely the brightest light possible. In fall and winter, its leaves may lose some of its redness, but it perks up again in spring and summer when strong light levels return. While the other varieties of Cape sundew prefer bright and cool conditions, this variety prefers bright and warm conditions. An adult plant can get up to 5 inches in diameter and just has tall.

Type of Plant: Tropical plant for windowsill growing.
Size: 5 inches across when mature.
Sunlight: Partial sun. Avoid hot sunlight.
Water: Low-mineral water (50 ppm or less).
Soil: Equal parts peat moss and perlite only.
Temperatures: Tolerant of cool temperatures but always protect from frost.

    Sundews & Pitcher Plants

Posted by Susan Campbell on February 9, 2020

These are my first carnivorous plant, not counting venus fly traps I got as a kid. I'm very pleased with the speed they arrived and all in great condition. Plenty of growing instructions were included. All of them are still alive and thriving (pitcher plants are planted outside and are dormant now, but healthy).

I received exactly what I ordered, in perfect condition, I planted my sun-dew outside in my carnivorous plant aquarium with my others and now, about a month later it has doubled in size. I'm delighted! (I live in florida so it ok to plant outside in the winter) That's 2 I've bought from you now, there will be a third, probably a Venus flytrap.

    Adorable Sparkly Plant Baby

My red leaf Sundew arrived with very vibrant color and many new leaves sprouting up in its already plentiful clusters! It only took a few days for new shiny droplets to form on the leaves again. It’s been near a month and it’s still happy and healthy!

    Really Great Plants

Posted by Sandra on November 3, 2019

They came very well packaged. The plants themselves were really healthy. It took them a couple of days to fully recover but they are doing great. Very pleased and happy with my purchase and looking forward to watching them grow.

    A lovely sundew

It arrived in good condition, and regained its dew after a few days of watering with RO. It has extended several new leaves, and is happily capturing fruit flies that come for my compost bucket.

Beautiful plant or should I say plants because there was three now there's two more little ones trying to come up. This plant has almost replaced all its branches in just over a month. The newest leaves are spectacular and boy are they catching bugs!
