A true American classic. Native to the coastal plains of North Carolina, this plant is often a person's first introduction into carnivorous plants. It's a small plant, rarely growing larger than 4 inches in diameter. As a US-native, this plant grows best outdoors in full sun during the growing season. In winter, it shuts down for a short rest. Growth resumes in spring.
Type of Plant: Outdoor perennial for container growing.
Height: Up to 3 inches at maturity.
Sunlight: Full sun during the growing season.
Water: Low-mineral water (50 ppm or less).
Soil: Equal parts peat moss and perlite only.
Winter: Dormant. Minimal protection in USDA zones 7-9. Mulch in colder regions.

Plants are grown outdoors at our nursery in Oregon.
January-March: Plant is dormant with few traps.
April: Spring growth will appear by the end of the month.
May: Still waking up. Fully developed traps will gradually appear.
June-August: Full display of traps.
September: Plant is slowing down. Upright traps start to drop.
October: Dormancy begins. Fewer traps. No new growth until spring.
November-December: Plant is dormant. Browned traps are cut off.

A wonderful addition to my collection!
This vibrant little fly trap is such a pretty specimen! It was packaged with great care and planting and care instructions were solid! There is already new growth and looks healthy and happy!

I ordered two, and both arrived in Minnesota in perfect condition. After a few days, I could not resist feeding a dead fly to one trap, and it closed with amazing speed! My only concern is how they will make it through the winter, but I will cross that bridge when I come to it.

Healthy happy fly chompers!
The plants arrived in beautiful conditions and packed well. Surprised at how big they already were. My plants seem to be getting comfortable with their new environment and locations. They have been in my seeding area under grow lights all day and I have only watered with tap water. I know it’s says not to but our water here is not hard and all my house plants love it too. Only one or two traps have died back and they are munching on my little gnats and fruit flies in the nursing area. Even a full on house fly. Poor thing wiggled for a day. My son loves and is very curious about plants and these are great for teaching. Super much better than the ones in the stores.

Excellent Venus Flytraps
