Dionaea muscipula Dente Flytrap

A cultivated variety that has short, triangular teeth. Its leaves tend to grow upright during the growing season. Because of its shorter teeth, It tends to capture insects by their heads!
Type of Plant: Outdoor perennial for container growing.
Height: Up to 3 inches at maturity.
Sunlight: Full sun during the growing season.
Water: Low-mineral water (50 ppm or less).
Soil: Equal parts peat moss and perlite only.
Winter: Dormant. Minimal protection in USDA zones 7-9. Mulch in colder regions.

All outdoor perennials experience seasonal changes at our nursery in Oregon.
• January-March: Plant is dormant with few traps.
• April: Spring growth will appear by the end of the month.
• May: Still waking up. Fully developed traps will gradually appear.
• June-August: Full display of traps.
• September: Plant is slowing down. Upright traps start to drop.
• October: Dormancy begins. Fewer traps. No new growth until spring.
• November-December: Plant is dormant. Browned traps are cut off.

Dente - Venus Flytrap
What I like to do when acquiring plants from Sarracenia Northwest is to purchase two of each. In the case of my Classic Venus Flytraps six. This way I can contrast and compare the growth between them and become more knowledgeable in the process. My two Dentes' are looking spectacular with their saw blade teeth and vibrant sunset colored interior. New traps appear and open, on what seems a daily basis. They are currently under 12+ hours of direct artificial light in preparation for next month's journey outdoors. Perhaps next season I'll crossbreed my Dente with my Red Dragon (one of whom is getting freaky big with two growth points) and create my own Red Piranha!

This plant arrived in perfect condition. I have had plants sent to me in all types of ways. I have NEVER had a plant packaged so well. Love the care guide and how much these plants are loved before they are sent out. I will be back for more plants!!

All plants in this list
Air are growing well in full sun with bottom watering. Plants sitting in a shallow tray that is constantly filled with water from well + rain. Sun dew not on this list is beginning to bloom also in this tray. Soon all will be planted in a milled sphagnum/sand mixture which, in turn, will be set down into the ground beside my greenhouse.

Dented fly trap
When I received my carnivorous plants they were all in wonderful condition. I've had them since May and they are flourishing. I'm going to try creating a bog garden.

Plant is very small with three shoots. I hope it grows to get bigger like the one in the picture. Two of them came blackish and have no died off :( *** RESPONSE BY SARRACENIA NORTHWEST *** Hi Lyddia. This batch are on the smaller side, but will get larger in time. Traps typically live for a month or two and die off. This normal. The transit process can also cause older leaves to die off quicker. Just clip them off and look for new growth coming up in the center of the plant. If you need further assistance, write to use using the form on Ask The Growers.

My 3plants I bought was actually 9plants 2 of which have put off beautiful large flowers I was able to cross pollinate with my other species I'm more than satisfied

The specimens I received were quite strange. The shoots only produced the tiniest of traps nothing substantial; I bought 4 and so far only one has successfully revived from dormancy through very small growth.
