General Description

Of all the varieties of Sarracenia flava, the form var. ornata, the ornate yellow trumpet, stands out from the crowd like a movie star. Unlike other forms of this species, the desirable ornate form bears outstanding thick red pinstripes against an orangey-yellow complexion. Its lofty, robust contours are accentuated by the fluted texture of this red venation.

Foliage is tall and exceptionally broad in optimal conditions. A wide, orangey lid exposes a blood-red throat patch in the interior of a generous, yellow-rimmed mouth. Taking a look at this variety up close, you can see heavy amounts of honey-like nectar, oozing plentifully in anticipation of its most common prey - yellowjackets and flies.

Plants You Receive
Plants are shipped in 4-inch pots with proper growing media. Each plant is a division from select mother plants in our collection. Pitchers are expected to reach 12 inches during their first season after division.

All cold hardy plants are grown outdoors at our nursery in Oregon and experience the changes of the seasons. Care instructions are provided.

Four new traps already.  Great form but small.  About six inches tall.  Next time I will get a larger plant.  Still a very pretty specimen.

So I when I first checked out I was a little shocked by the shipping cost of two plants (20usd est.) But when the plants arrived already in there pots I understood why. I’m very glad they were too as it made things a lot easier for me as far as care. Printed care Guides were given on both plants and I was also given a cd that was Full of tips for care for all kinds of carnivorous plants. Truely spectacular. The flava ornata is just now getting its first spring pitcher, I can’t wait to see how it turns out

Sarracenia flava v. ornata December 29, 2018

The plant was delivered on time and in great condition. Some phyllodia were left on the plant to help the exit from dormancy in the spring. I transplant the plant in a bigger pot and I cannot wait to see how the plant will look like in the spring.
