This is a very durable hybrid. We purchased the original mother plant back in the early 1990s, and since then, it has produced lots of new vines from which we have taken numerous cuttings.
The plant came to us as Velvet, a hybrid of Nepenthes maxima and fusca, but it also goes by the name Gentle or Gentle Velvet. Lower pitchers (first photo) have dark brown mottling. Upper pitchers (second photo) are chartreuse and funnel-shaped. Leaves are thick, slightly velvety, and richly colored.
Overall, it is a great plant for first-time growers. Grow it in a very brightly lit sunny windowsill that receives several hours of direct sunlight.
Plants You Receive
Current batch consists of established rooted cuttings from proven mother plants and will likely produce upper pitchers as shown in the second photo. In time, when the plant produces basal shoots, it will produce lower pitchers.
Your plant will be shipped in a 4-inch pot with the proper growing medium. The last photo is representative of plants for sale. Plants will need to acclimate to your household conditions before it will produce pitchers.
