This is a very durable hybrid. We purchased the original mother plant back in the early 1990s. Since then, it has produced lots of new vines from which we have taken numerous cuttings. The plant came to us labeled as Velvet, a cultivar of N. maxima x fusca, but it also goes by the name Gentle or Gentle Velvet. Lower pitchers (first two photos) have dark brown mottling. Upper pitchers (third and fourth photos) are chartreuse and funnel-shaped. Leaves are thick, slightly velvety, and richly colored. Overall, it is a great plant for first-time growers. Grow it in a very brightly lit sunny windowsill that receives several hours of direct sunlight.

Type of Plant: Tropical pitcher plant for indoor growing.
Pitcher Size: Up to 8 inches.
Sunlight: Bright filtered to partial sun.
Water: Low-mineral water (50 ppm or less).
Soil: Equal parts dried sphagnum moss and perlite only.
Temperatures: Above 70°F during the day; 55°-70°F during the night. Always protect from frost.

PLANT YOU RECEIVE
• Established rooted cutting, which may produce lower or upper pitchers.
• Acclimated for windowsill growing.
• Shipped in a 4-inch pot. Care instructions are included.

The first photo is descriptive of the mother plant in our collection. The last photo shows established cuttings ready for new homes. Pitchers may or may not be present at the time of shipping.

Another perfectly packaged plant from SNW. One new pitcher was intact when I got it and has since opened beautifully. Pitchers are slower to appear on this plant, but I've has some incredible leaf jumps in the month I've had it, and am excited to see more appear!

    Fantastic, healthy plants

Posted by Holly Hokenstrom on February 7, 2019

these arrived perfectly packed in mint condition. They are growing, so far so good, the baby pitchers are starting to grow, I believe this plant had to acclimate to my area, the subtropics, and its now starting to grow more leaves and I can see the pitchers starting to form, I'm so excited to see these get bigger. I will definitely be ordering more from this company!
