Drosera adelae, commonly known as the lance leaf sundew, is native to northern
Australia. It is an excellent plant for beginners because of its
ability to adapt to different light conditions. Grow in medium light for
wide green leaves. Grow in very bright light for narrower, red leaves.
sundew is also extremely prolific. It sends out runners that form new
plants from under the soil. A single plant in a 4-inch pot can easily fill up that space within
6 months! The lance leaf sundew makes great a companion plants for
orchids, such as
Phalenopsis. Look for red star-shape flowers in early winter.
The giant form differs from the regular form by its size. Its leaves will typically grow twice as large, up to 12 inches, depending on the growing conditions. Other than that, its care is exactly the same.
