This sundew is native to the grasslands in the higher elevations of Brazil. In many respects, this species looks very similar to Drosera tracyi and Drosera filiformis, species found in the eastern regions of the United States. It has long thin leaves that can approach a foot long. During the summer months when sunlight is more intense, the leaves turn red. Look for purple flowers in spring.

Unlike its US cousins, Drosera spiralis is a true tropical plant. Coming from the higher elevations of Brazil, it prefers very bright sunlight (full sun) and cool temperatures, below 80°F, during the day. The nights should drop below 70°F whenever possible. This plant is very tolerant of night temperatures dropping as low as 40°F. Protect this plant from frost.

Drosera spiralis is rare in cultivation.

Plant arrived in superb shape. Considering the lanky nature of D. spiralis, I'm impressed. Thanks SNW, the plant made my day.
