In the 1990s we crossed Sarracenia oreophila with Sarracenia rubra jonesii, two very rare and robust species. From this cross, we selected three clones that exhibited robust growth and gorgeous flowers that range from peach to reddish-orange to yellow. One of those clones is Appalachian Spring which pitchers and flowers resembling rubra jonesii. This plant will produce lots of pitchers in spring and early summer. By mid summer, the plant slows down and the early spring pitchers will darken. In late summer when the weather cools down, this plant will send up a new set of pitchers. Nice!

2nd Season Divisions
After dividing our mother plants in spring, we grow the divisions for a year before releasing them. You get a more vigorous plant with a healthier root system when compared to a recent division.

All outdoor perennials experience seasonal changes at our nursery in Oregon.

April: Spring growth will appear by the end of the month.
May: Fully developed pitchers will start to appear.
June: Full display of pitchers. This plant will look its best!
July-August: Plant will slow down when it’s hot. Some minor spotting.
September-October: Dormancy begins. Fewer pitchers. No new growth until spring.
November-December: Plant is dormant. Browned pitchers are cut off.

    Good surprise!

Posted by Tyler on June 27, 2020

I got this one back in December/January when it was still in dormancy. As the plant woke up from dormancy back in late March, it really surprised me in a good way! The pitchers are definitely a little different then whats in the picture. When they first open, they are a greenish yellow color with red veining. As the pitcher matures, it keeps the red veining but the greenish yellow turns into a yellowish orange. This is definitely an underrated plant and has become one of my favorites! And as always, outstanding packaging. I've been extremely happy with this plant.

    Beautiful plant

Posted by Kerry S. on May 29, 2020

This plant is alot more beautiful than I first expected. It came in great condition and is doing really well. It has great coloring and it already has 3 pitchers on it, though sadly a slug ate the top off of one of them so watch out for slugs.
