This species has dark mottled pitchers with a flared dark peristome. It is also adaptable in a variety of growing conditions, so it's easy to grow and makes a great houseplant for the first-time grower. Just make sure to give it lots of sunlight to achieve its characteristic dark colors.

General Care

Type of Plant: Tropical pitcher plant for windowsill growing.
Native Habitat: Rainforests of Southeast Asia.
Sunlight: Very bright filtered sunlight.  
Water: Low-mineral water (50 ppm or less).  Allow water to drain through.
Soil: Equal parts dried sphagnum moss and perlite.  No garden soil, compost, or fertilizer.
Temperatures: Above 70°F during the day.  Nighttime drop of 10°-15° is recommended.  Always protect from frost.
