Drosera esterhuyseniae is a very close relative to Drosera aliciae, which is also a close relative to Drosera slackii. This hybrid is very vigorous in cultivation. Our mother plants is 3-4 inches in diameter and produces very gorgeous leaves throughout the year.

The parent plants are native to the coastal mountains of South Africa. As with many sundews from this region, this hybrid prefers cool conditions. A hot day is 80°. It also prefers lower light levels than it's cousins whenever the weather heats up. We've got the best growth and color when sheltering this plant from the hot summer sun. Otherwise, this plant can grow well in very bright conditions in winter when home temperatures are much cooler.

Type of Plant: Tropical plant for windowsill growing.
Size: Up to 4 inches across when mature.
Sunlight: Partial sun. Avoid hot sunlight.
Water: Low-mineral water (50 ppm or less).
Soil: Equal parts peat moss and perlite only.
Temperatures: Appreciates cool temperatures but always protect from frost.

This plant is growing well. We shade it with taller sarracenia plants and it likes that protection from our texas sun.

Incredible specimen. My plant looked much more impressive than even the photo they show of it on their site.

    Beautiful jewel of a plant

I actually got two! The broad red petioles and its robust nature make it very promising. The plants are remarkably aesthetic sitting alone in the center of the pot, SNW doesn't fail to deliver.

Has added a nice splash of color to my bowl of spatulas. And has gotten the center spot.
